ONE
Tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
I'm Kate Waterhouse, a journalist with a background in fashion. I started as a style and fashion editor for the Sunday Telegraph and then The Sun-Herald and then ventured into blogging, and now I work on content creation with various local and international brands. I'm also a TV presenter for Channel 7 and a children's book author.

Can you share how your upbringing and family have influenced your career in fashion and journalism?
My upbringing heavily influenced my career; my family, particularly my stylish mom, aunt, and grandmas, surrounded me with fashion, creating a strong connection to the industry. I studied media and communications at university and fell into media.
People always ask why I didn’t follow in my mums' footsteps, but my mum was actually a tv presenter before becoming a horse trainer so in some ways I did follow her footsteps.

What is it like being the daughter of the Queen of Australian racing, Gai Waterhouse? You must be so proud of what she has achieved and what she has done for the racing industry.
It is incredible; I'm immensely proud of her achievements in the racing industry. What she has done for not only women in the industry but for the industry as a whole is truly remarkable.

How would you describe your personal fashion philosophy, and how has it evolved over the years?
My fashion philosophy leans towards classic style with a slight edge, it’s definitely evolved over the years. As a mum of two I’m always looking for versatility in my clothes. I want to be able to go to meeting but able to feel stylish yet comfortable picking up my kids from school and running around with them in the afternoon.
FIVE
Reflecting on your career, what moment or achievement are you most proud of in the fashion industry?
Reflecting on my career, I take immense pride in collaborating with some incredible local and international brands that have led me on amazing adventures and wonderful relationships. Additionally, I’m so proud of my children’s book “Sophia the Show Pony” which became a bestseller, and I’m eagerly anticipating the release of “Gracie the Princess Pony” in April, (with the potential for more exciting projects in the pipeline).

What is your favourite piece from our AW24 collection?
I love the entire collection, particularly the Petrisse cardigan. It’s perfect for seasonal layering by pairing the collared style with trousers, buttoned up with a skirt, or draped over your shoulders for effortless charm.

You’ve expressed a love for merino wool. Can you share what initially drew you to this material and why it's become a staple in your wardrobe?
Merino wool initially drew me in with its luxurious feel and being a natural fiber. I love dressing in it, I love my kids to wear it. It’s a wardrobe staple in our household. Wearing wool brings numerous benefits. Firstly, it provides natural insulation, keeping you warm in cold weather and cool in warmer temperatures due to its breathability. Wool is moisture-wicking, drawing sweat away from the body, making it comfortable for various activities. Its natural elasticity ensures garments retain their shape and resist wrinkles so it’s easy to maintain and lasts the test of time.
