5 MICRONS

WITH PHOEBE WHITE

ONE

Introduce yourself to the I&W community

My name is Phoebe White, I am a mum of two beautiful girls living in Scone NSW where my family have been farmers for 7 generations. I run a small rural business and work remotely for a property developer based in Miami FL USA.

TWO

You own a generational luxury retreat known as the Woolooma Glass House – talk to us about the retreat, how did it come about and what inspired the build? what does it offer its guests?

My grandfather Michael White bought Woolooma Station in 1972 in hopes of preserving the property from future threats of logging or development. It was my grandmother, Judy White who had the vision of building a house, where she could escape and create, writing the first of her nine books at the property.

Woolooma Glass House was built in 1973, designed by Sydney based architect John Suttor. The house has two queen bedrooms, a full kitchen, bathroom and expansive living area looking out over the Upper Hunter Valley.

Woolooma Glass House is for the lover of raw beauty and natural surroundings, the one who seeks adventure but takes the time to be still.

THREE

Tell our readers about its interior styling, what is the vibe and what are some of the key pieces it includes?

The house interiors are textured and natural, mimicking the house’s surroundings, bringing in earthy and neutral tones. The interiors have been kept simple, so that the architectural features are the main characters. Key pieces include the central fire and conversation pit, laid in Australian wool cream carpet and the floor to ceiling glass windows bringing in the 180 degree view of the expansive Upper hunter Valley below.

FOUR

What is your go-to look for a typical workday?

Probably always keep it clean and classic with personality. But
whatever the occasion or season, I will always wear natural fibres, wool in winter every day!

FIVE

What are your top tips for starting and running a luxury accommodation service?

Find your story, identify who you are, and remain true to
that. There are so many incredible places to experience and stay, particularly in rural Australia, so having your own point of difference is key. For us at Woolooma Glass House, our guests are not just having a holiday, they are having a unique adventurous Australian experience. In fact the beginning of the guests' experience is at our heritage Belltrees woolshed where we did this photoshoot. The woolshed is where the White's story began in 1831.

What do you love about Australian merino wool?

I love the functionality of merino wool for warmth and comfort,
particularly for the kids. Merino wool offers the perfect underlayer, mid layer or top layer. Wearing Australian merino wool means supporting a wonderful community of Australian farming families.
